Description: Located in south Orange County on an 80-acre sprawl surrounded by a lake nearly half the park’s size, Laguna Niguel Regional Park was originally part of a Mexican land grant. Today it is one of the county’s most lush destinations, rich with sheltered picnic areas, barbecues, pedestrian bridges leading to remote areas, and equestrian trails for those who enjoy exploring on horseback. The lake is stocked with trout during the winter as well as bass, bluegill, and catfish year-round with bait and boat rentals located at the park’s boathouse. Sporty types can take to the jogging trails, sand volleyball courts, lighted tennis courts, or the horseshoe pits. The park’s Kite Hill is a favorite spot for remote-controlled airplanes and gliders. There are also a handful of tot lots, and leashed dogs are welcome to accompany their human companions to the park as well. Laguna Niguel Regional Park is open November through March from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and April through October until 9 p.m.
