Insider Pick:

Description: This 1741 farm in Middlefield has become a destination for two reasons: its excellent farm store and its award-winning golf club. Notice that it is a golf club, not just a golf course, because there are actually two courses here. The first was designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1969. Expect rolling hills and doglegs as the course lazily winds through the Connecticut landscape, seeming to never end. There are 4 sets of tees on each hole, water features on the back 9, and 44 bunkers throughout. This challenging course has even been used for the Connecticut PGA Championship. The other course was designed in 1994 by Gary Player, and both are consistently ranked in the top 10 public courses in the state. Zagat rates them both as two of the best in the US. The golf shop features custom-fitted equipment, and the Grille Room halfway through the Jones course offers breakfast and lunch. You can also rent clubs, and USGA handicap services are provided.
