Description: This independent nonprofit has worked since 1976 to provide Maine and northern New England with access to reliable information about health care providers. The Maine Health Information Center (MHIC) was originally incorporated to provide data on the health care industry to providers, employers, and the state. Today, the MHIC continues to perform this function, primarily serving as a resource for policy makers, but patients interested in researching available care can also make good use of the MHIC Web site, which includes links to MaineCare (the state’s health program for children, the elderly and disabled, and low-income residents) and the Maine Health Management Coalition (a network between the state and area businesses that provides information on local doctors and hospitals).
