Description: Nags Head Bowling offers fun for kids, but parents bowl peacefully here while their children are totally enthralled. This facility sports kiddie bumpers running the length of the lane, so even barely walking tykes can knock down pins every time. Games cost $4.95 each; shoes rent for $3.50. Nags Head Bowling is open from noon until midnight daily. If you’re sensitive to smoke, bowl early in the afternoon. Select from many video games in the entrance, including Tekken 2, Ultimate Mortal Kombat, Ms. Pac-Man, Stargate pinball, and air hockey. You must be 21 to play pool in the on-site bar unless accompanied by an adult. Yes, there is a snack bar!

Description: The YMCA has weeklong day camps for all ages. Full-day camps are for ages 5 to 12. Each week has a special theme, and kids do activities related to the theme in addition to going to the pool and ocean and on field trips. The YMCA also hosts several sports camps in beach volleyball, girls field hockey, soccer, basketball, and junior ocean rescue. Day passes are available for the superb skate park. Description: A wide range of educational nature programs are offered for kids. Take a dune hike and learn about the animals and plants in the area. Choose from a soundside hike, sunset on the ridge, crabby clinic, birding on the sound, and lots more. All programs are free and open to the public.

Description: Sally Huss Gallery features the upbeat original art and prints of the California artist of the same name. Huss creates impressionistic paintings in bold colors featuring childlike scenes. Her designs, coupled with cheerful sayings, are transferred onto mugs, gift wrap, T-shirts, cards, and key chains. Adults and kids alike get a kick out of her lighthearted creations that are dotted with toucans, mermaids, elephants, hearts, and sailboats. You’ll also want to see the original ceramics. In addition to Huss’s art, this gallery features unique home decor, gifts, and work from local potters. The gallery is open all year.

Description: Gail Kowalski is a designer-goldsmith who has won national recognition for her creations in precious metals and stones. Her pieces have been regularly spotted on Hollywood’s elite on the red carpet. Most of the jewelry designed and made here falls into the “wearable art” category. Check out Selections by Gail, a department of very high-quality but moderately priced handmade jewelry from all over the world. Kowalski personally selects each piece exhibited here. The Charming Lights sterling and gold lighthouse jewelry collection is a favorite. Images of the four local lighthouses are fashioned into earrings, pendants, and charms. The gallery is open Mon through Sat and is closed in Jan.

Description: Yellowhouse Gallery houses one of North Carolina’s largest collections of antique prints and maps. Thousands of original old etchings, lithographs, and engravings are organized for browsing in several rooms of one of Nags Head’s older beach cottages. Established in 1969, the gallery features Civil War prints and maps; prints of botanicals, fish, shells, and birds; and old views and antique maps and charts of the Outer Banks. Yellowhouse Gallery also offers a huge selection of decorative and fine-art prints and posters as well as souvenir pictures and maps of the Outer Banks. If the picture you want is not in stock, Uncle Jack, the proprietor, will order it for you.
