Description: What’s more American than barbecue—and barbecue served in an old filling station? Albert G’s fills the bill. Of course, the filling station is cleaned up—the only grease you’ll find will be on your chin (and not much there). The walls are decorated with gas station memorabilia—signs, even a gas pump in the corner. The chairs are chrome, tabletops are metal, and the upholstery is black fake leather with red piping—ooh, they’ve got the ambience down pat. There are picnic tables outside—and smoking is allowed there. The barbecue is slow cooked, overnight, over hickory logs. The brisket and pork ribs are best sellers. The sliced brisket sandwich features thick-sliced slabs of meat, well trimmed so you’re not getting a lot of fat. Smoked chicken is offered on Wednesday and Saturday nights, and there are customers who come in then just for that selection. The baked beans are cooked with bits of meat and a touch of cinnamon. You can order combo plates or dinners with two sides or sandwiches. Buy by the pound to take home and they toss in sauce and bread. All the sides, except potato chips, are made right here. The sauce comes in sweet or hot—it’s their recipe but it’s produced commercially. The only alcohol sold is 3.2 beer. All orders entitle you to the pickle, onion, and pepper bar. Albert G’s does dine-in, carry-out, and catering. They’re open for lunch and dinner, Monday through Saturday.
