Description: Rasmussen Farms—an hour’s drive east from Portland in the scenic Hood River area—is a destination throughout the year because of its varied harvests of cherries (July), pears and apples (Sept), and pumpkins (Oct). Rasmussen’s Halloween celebrations make it one of the most popular pumpkin patches around. At the foot of Mount Hood, the beautiful setting of this farm would be enticing with or without the pumpkins. Rasmussen is open from April until just before Thanksgiving, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Description: The Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum, in beautiful Hood River, features not only beautifully restored old planes and cars, but also planes and cars that actually still work. Here you will find Model T’s and Studebakers, as well as a very large collection of operating antique planes—among them a rare Curtiss Jenny. The museum also has an extensive restoration program, and they hold numerous events throughout the year where they take the planes up in an inspiring homage to human endeavor.
