Description: No sense trying to worm your way out of it—even if you’ve never been caught by the lure of fishing, you’re likely to get hooked on this hatchery. Besides ponds full of trout for stocking South Dakota waters, there’s an aquatic center where you can learn about watersheds, fish, and fishing. There are nature programs, too, and pellets are available if you want to feed the fish. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily from Memorial Day to the end of Aug, and you can call for information about free summer programs.

Description: If you like puzzles you’ll love this bilevel, ever-changing maze with more than a mile of mind-boggling paths. Time yourself to see how quickly you can find your way out of the fortresslike network of towers, bridges, stairs, and sharp corners. There’s also Bankshot Basketball and Water Wars with water balloons, a climbing wall, a zipline, and scooterlike Roller-Racers. Worn out yet? Take a break at the snack bar and pick up a South Dakota souvenir at the gift shop. The maze, 3 miles south of Rapid City, is open 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day, except on Flashlight Fridays, when it’s open an hour later and the lights go out. During Sept and Oct it’s open Fri through Sun on a varying schedule, so call ahead for times.

Description: The name of this pizza arcade says it all. There’s enough to do to keep you giggling for hours. Check out the kiddie rides, video games, Skee-Ball, pinball, and the play space. The restaurant—specializing in kid food—will help you keep up your energy for play. Gigglebees hosts birthday parties, too, with cakes, game tokens, even hats. Gigglebees is open year-round; its hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mon through Thurs, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fri, and 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sat. There is no admission fee, but all games and rides require one or more tokens that cost 25 cents each. Token specials are often available.
