It’s was around 8pm and close to boarding time so I just picked up a boxed salad, a bag of chips, and simply wanted to pay for them (and perhaps a beer if I still had time) so I could bring the food onto the plane. There was a sign that said to pay at the bar. The young white bartender at the bar chose not serve me while I was standing right in front of him at the bar waiting patiently for nearly 10 minutes while he served at least four or five other white people who came to the bar after me. During this wait, I only asked him two times in normal voice if I could pay for the food. Both times he was in front of me and looked at me but did not say anything, then went to a different side and served new people who just sat down. This was so bizarre to me. I left with no food and no drink. I am an Asian American business traveler, and I used to travel by air every week for many years. The last time this kind of thing happened to me in an airport was back in early 1990s in a duty-free shop at Charles de Gaulle International Airport in France.
