  • --General Description-- Acadia Park Kayak Tours offers ecological tours of Frenchman's Bay and the Porcupine Islands. Frenchman's Bay is the body of water off the coast of Bar Harbor, Maine on Mount Desert Island where Acadia National Park is located. We offer sunrise, morning, day, sunset, evening, overnight and private tours. Tour group sizes are limited to six people or less making ours the smallest groups in the area. A special emphasis is placed on eco-friendly business practices and 5% of profits are donated to ocean conservation. No former kayaking experience is required and all necessary equipment is provided. A Registered Maine Guide leads all tours. _______________________________________________________ --All the Extras-- In addition to all the necessary equipment we also provide bottled spring water, rain ponchos, wet suit gloves by request, and optically clear float able waterproof camera cases, even for SLR cameras. _______________________________________________________ --Your Guide-- Your trip leader will not only be a Registered Maine Guide but will also be a Wilderness First Responder, and a lifeguard. Your Guide will be able and happy to answer questions on kayaking, fishing, ecology, wildlife, Maine history and culture, geology, and Native American history of the region among other topics. _______________________________________________________ --Catch Some Bugs-- Your guide may also offer the chance to demonstrate the mystery of hauling a lobster trap. Don't worry you vegetarians or vegans it is catch and release if requested. _______________________________________________________ --Star Gazing Tours-- The evening tours will feature a guided tour of not only of the ocean and and coastal islands but also of the night sky. An added bonus to taking an evening tour is that they will be private to your group while being priced well below the cost of the regular private tours. _______________________________________________________ --Private Tours-- There are several options available with the private tours that aren't available with the day or night tours. You can schedule a sunrise tour, or an overnight island camping adventure. Private tours can also leave and depart from any location on Mount Desert Island or possibly even from one of the near by off island towns. Unlike almost every other outfitter in the state there is no group size minimum or requirement of making reservations weeks in advance to schedule a private tour. Of course the sooner you do make the reservation the better the chance of you grabbing the spot you prefer in the schedule. _______________________________________________________ --Love Your Mother-- The list of measure we take to have out business be as environmentally friendly as possible is actually to long to put in this description. If you are dying to know you can read about it on our website but as an example we were the first company to ever request from the largest spray skirt manufacturer in the country that our spray skirts be made entirely without PVC and are an industry leader in other ways as well. _______________________________________________________ --Be Popular with Your Friends-- Gift Certificates are available for purchase online on our website and are a great way to treat someone you know to a sea kayak adventure. Many people say that their trip was the highlight of their vacation. _______________________________________________________ --Sweet Deals-- We sell our gently used one and two person kayaks at steep discounts and throw in wholesale priced kayak equipment to sweeten the deal. _______________________________________________________ --Q and A-- There is a much longer Q and A on the website but here are a few answers to the most common questions --You don't need to have any former kayaking experience or be extremely fit or strong. --Kids need to be at least 4'7" for most tours but for some sheltered locations they only need to be six and on lakes they only need to weigh fifty pounds. --Tours go out in the fog all the time and it is one of the best times to go...really. We will be so close to the islands we will still get to see them and the mist rolling over their contours really is beautiful. --In light Rain tours definitely go out. In heavy rain I may give you the choice of whether or not to cancel at the last minute. --The boats are extremely stable and will not tip over unless you intentionally make them, or panic and flail around...joking. I have bought the biggest, longest, and most stable (most expensive and very heavy) two person kayaks made to give my customers the most worry free ride. That is true dedication to you the customer considering that I often pull these kayaks down to the beach myself on a hand or bike cart. Who else in the area uses these top of the line kayaks for all their tours? You have probably already guessed that I am going to say that just Acadia Park Kayak Tours does. Know it all.
