Oriental is mile marker 182 on the ICW and is a favorite stopover for cruisers heading north and south. The Neuse River is the widest (6 miles!) river in the USA and empties into Pamlico Sound which reaches to the outer banks of Cape Hatteras and the enchanted islan of Ocracoke.
