| Description: | Desert Montessori has been in Lancaster, CA since 1963, offering an educational program based on the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori, whose method works on the principal that a child prefers mentors to "Help me learn to do it for myself." Desert Montessori's goal is to help each child reach his full potential in every area of life. Activities are designed to promote the development of social, emotional, and physical growth. At Desert Montessori the child works at his own pace and learns in the ways that work best for him as an individual, helping him discover his unique talents. Grade-school aged children work together in the classroom. Only one of each activity is provided in the classroom. The child must choose carefully what he wants to work on and learns patience when he has to wait his turn. The teacher to student ratio is 1-to-8, with no more than 24 students in the classroom at any given time. Toilet trained children who are at least 2 1/2-years-old are accepted to the school. Desert Montessori is located at 44503 North Fern Avenue, between Avenue J and Oldfield, in Downtown Lancaster. The school is listed with the State of California as a private school. |
