Pennsylvania Interfaith Community Programs, Inc. has opened a branch office in the Hamburg area to help local families. Financial Counseling Services is available free to anyone of any income level living in Pennsylvania. There are a variety of services available including family finances and budgeting, reviewing your credit report, improving your credit rating, avoiding credit counseling and housing scams, preventing and repairing identity theft, foreclosure and mortgage assistance, and refinancing options. The counseling is entirely free and completely confidential. A typical first appointment would include reviewing the individual’s monthly spending plan, pulling a free credit report and setting some long and short term goals. Subsequent appointments would track success and provide additional suggestions. For individuals in a foreclosure situation a first appointment would assist the household to determine the best options available to them.
The local Financial Counseling Service is a branch of a non-profit organization that has been operating in Pennsylvania since 1969 and is not affiliated with any particular denomination. It is very reputable and is not associated with any of the scams that have been in the news recently. Prior to my move to the Hamburg area, I worked for this organization for four years in Gettysburg, PA. I worked with many civic leaders in that community and was a member of the Adams County Housing Alliance. I am a certified housing and financial counselor by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) located in Harrisburg which is the state-endorsed clearing house for anyone in foreclosure.
If you may know of someone who would benefit from these free services, please have them call me to set up an appointment at 610-562-2288. Please encourage them to leave a message if I do not personally answer their call. The appointments are available weekdays or evenings. My office is located in the Hamburg Seventh-day Adventist Community Church who has graciously allowed me space in their building in conjunction with their food and clothing distribution program that serves this area.
