Teton Coalition, Inc., a non-profit organization, was established to assist low to moderate income families with homeownership opportunities and help them on a road to sulf-sufficiency. Our dedicated staff works with each client to provide them with the knowledge and education to become a successful homeowner. We offer Homebuyer Education classes free to all clients. Included in this class is information on foreclosure prevention, a home inspector, a realtor, predatory lending practices, landscaping and maintenance for the home, a local lender, USDA Rural Development office(rural lender)and insurance agent. In the year 2008, Teton Coalition assisted approximately 450 clients through Homebuyer Education, with approximately 35 new homeowners out of the 450. We also work with local organizations such as Western South Dakota Community Action Program and Consumer Credit Counseling of the Black Hills which provide IDA counseling and debt management for all Teton clients who wish to utilize these services. Teton Coalition has two staff members whose dedication to low income housing comes through when working with clients. Leona Clubbs, Housing Advocate, has been with Teton Coalition for 11 years. She says her work becomes more rewarding with each family she sees become homeowners. Monica Swan, Administrative Assistant, worked at Teton Coalition from 2002 until late 2005. She has just been re-employed with Teton Coalition and is very eager to start working with clients. She says,"there is no greater reward than to see families become homeowers, it is life changing for the families we serve." This year, Teton Coalition has a goal of assisting 500 families through homebuyer education and to see 50 families become homeowners.
