| Description: | Every child dreams of what they'll "be" when they grow up, right? I always knew that I'd be a teacher. Well, I finally grew up somewhere in my mid-thirties and realized I had spent my working life in retail or office administration. And I was "in-between" jobs. My college days had come and gone (and me with only an Associates Degree to show for it) and I knew there was no going back. That meant I had to get another job. I ended up at a small manufacturing firm specializing in monuments and headstones. Family owned and operated, it was a perfect fit for me. Ten years later, after the unexpected demise of the owner, I was once again jobless. And terrified. In todays economy, and on the other side of forty, with the competition fierce for ANY job, my husband and I looked at each other and said "It's now or never." So now I run my own monument and headstone company; strictly on a retail level. I'm still terrified (a little) but also determined and proud. I took the leap of faith that is often presented but usually run from. I am comfortable in this niche because it fulfills multiple needs; my need to be creative, my need for flexible hours are only two. I also strongly feel that the age-old ritual of commerating our departed is a necessity. And should be affordable. There are so many options available today for personalizing a headstone. I encourage folks to be expressive and I don't charge outrageous prices for it. When a family member visits a grave, he/she should look at the stone and say "yes, that is him/her exactly." I will never push a family into spending beyond their means just to get a unique headstone; it simply isn't right. And whatever it takes to get the stone done right, I'm willing to do. My bottom line is for every one to be satisfied with their choice of headstone; I want the family to be glad they came to Forever Monuments each and every time they see their stone. Glad because they love the final memory of their departed one and glad because they know they were given a fair price and were treated with respect and kindness and understanding.
