Description:
Old Fort Country is both a retail store and a museum where everyone is welcome and no one is a stranger. It offers antiques, bird and birding items, railroad memorabilia, collectible glassware, and Western art. Among its specialties are many works of Frederic Remington, including bronzes, prints, ceramics, writings, and more. The store also has a dedicated section of items related to the Buffalo Soldiers, who were stationed at nearby Fort Davis. It also offers autographed and first edition books, especially those related to Fort Davis and the area. Old Fort Country is an official "Business Partner" of the USGS, carrying a complete line of old and new topo maps. The map selection is complemented by historic (1800s) maps of Texas and the Big Bend area. In addition to the thousands of items for sale, Old Fort Country has a number of static displays that are sure to be of interest to locals and visitors alike. Old Fort Country is open from noon - 9:00 p.m. daily.
Old Fort Country is also the home of First Saturday Flea Market, a rapidly growing and increasingly popular Fort Davis original. Featuring antiques, collectibles, and oddities from throughout the Big Bend region, it is held from 8-5 on the first Saturday of each month March through December.
Both Old Fort Country and First Saturday Flea Market are located directly across from the Fort Davis National Historic Site.
