| Description: | Small Wonders Imaging is a full service prenatal imaging center offering elective ultrasounds to expectant mothers. We offer 3D & 4D Ultrasounds that provide a positive bonding experience between the mother, father, family members and their new baby. 3D ultrasound provides a connection between parents and child that can be beneficial to the whole family. A special bond is formed when parents see the 3D & 4D images as compared to the traditional two dimensional images because the picture of the baby is so much more realistic. With a state-of-the-art GE Voluson 730 Ultrasound machine, activities of the baby inside the womb can be seen which are difficult or impossible to visualize on a traditional ultrasound machine. For example, with 4D scanning the fetus can now be seen yawning, crying, swallowing, blinking and performing intricate finger movements. These activities can be seen in mid pregnancy, although they become more common as pregnancy advances. Expectant mothers nationwide are seeking elective ultrasounds because they feel it will have a positive impact during their pregnancy. Recent studies have shown that viewing an ultrasound can cause marked improvement in maternal health habits. Studies presented at an American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) conference have supported that 3D ultrasounds will positively influence parents bond with their babies. The anecdotal evidence is clear, mothers tend to improve their diets, exercise more, and eliminate harmful behaviors such as smoking or drinking. Other benefits include increased paternal involvement, family support, and empathy. Although there are plenty of entertaining aspects to a 3D/4D ultrasound, safety and professionalism should always remain paramount when choosing a provider. A responsible ultrasound provider will verify that the client is seeing a healthcare provider for prenatal care. Proof should also be required that the mother-to-be has already completed a full-anatomical, second-trimester ultrasound study. The provider should use the ALARP (as low as reasonably possible) method to keep within FDA-established levels for frequency and power for prenatal use. They should also limit the actual scan time to less than 25 minutes per session. The provider should be staffed with ARDMS registed technicians who are specifically trained by education and experience to conduct your ultrasound, the session must be immediately suspended if anything adverse is discovered, and all findings should be directly reported to the mother’s healthcare provider. Remember that word-of-mouth is usually the best method of referral amongst expectant mothers. So do your homework, and ask around. The best ultrasound experience will be the culmination of the nicest facility, the best equipment, and a professional, caring staff, and remember...insist on a registered sonographer! Call today to meet your small wonder. (843) 817-6345 | |
