Garden Treasures was formed in September 2005 after its founders, Mark and Patricia Lovejoy bought an old deserted dairy farm in Arlington to help revitalize a small agricultural business. We started by building sustainablility and earthfriendly irragtion sytem to ensure our farm could be as low impact and environmental as possible. In March of 2006 we started to bring in plants from our old farm and opened to the public with much fanfare.
After opening our focus went to starting our organic farm for summer income. Our first year was a challenge financially and physically because so much needed to be done to start a new farm. We built greenhouses, cultivated the pasture, ammended poor soil areas with compost and manure and faught the weeds relentlessly. By winter of 2006/07, and after a nice first harvest we pushed forward and prepared for the next season.
In the spring of 2007 we completed our organic certification with the Washington State Department of Agriculuture. We also continued to increase the size and scope of our garden center while at the same time tripling production of of organic products.
