| Description: | The Golden Crane provides quality instruction in the Traditional Martial Arts of Okinawa & Japan. Opened in October 2004, the Dojo [school] brings to its' students a deep sense of the history & traditions of karate, as well as the physical practice of the art. Introducing you to the instructors, and co-owners: Lee Betts, Shihan [master instructor] is a Rokudan, 6th Degree Black Belt in two styles of karate [Goju-ryu & Shorin-ryu]. Diane McMullen, Kyoshi [chief master instructor] is a Shichidan, 7th Degree Black Belt in two styles of karate [Goju-ryu & Shorin-ryu]. Additionally, Ms.McMullen holds Black Belts in four additional styles of karate and kobu-jutsu [traditional weapons]. Karate is more than kicking and punching. It assists in the development of the person, as a whole. The Okinawan karate masters used the term 'Sanchin - 3 battles'. Mind - Body - Spirit. Training in traditional karate provides development in these three areas. Traditional vs. Modern Karate - Not to take away from the benefits of training in any karate school, but, training in a traditional Dojo [school] brings a sense of order to our lives, and to the art. There is no 'ego' in traditional karate. It is left at the door with our shoes. Traditional karate brings a sense of community, rather than individuality. It fosters a sense of working to the best of one's potential, while encouraging the group as a whole. Consider joining us for a complimentary orientation class.
