Psychological and Counseling Associates was incorporated in January 2000, and is located at 936 Jeff Road, Huntsville, AL 35806. Dr. Belvia W. Matthews is the president and manager of Psychological and Counseling Associates. Dr. Calvin O. Matthews is co-owner and also provides counseling services. Psychological and Counseling Associates is a member of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce and the North Alabama African American Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Belvia Matthews is active in both Chambers. She is on the Board of the Women ‘s Business Council, which is a part of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Belvia Wright Matthews is a native of Huntsville, Alabama. She earned a Bachelor degree in Psychology from Columbia Union College (Maryland) and a Master's degree in Counseling from Alabama A & M University. She graduated from Michigan State University with a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and a minor in Industrial Psychology. Dr. Matthews was on the faculty of Oakwood College in the Psychology Department for twenty-five years. She chaired the Psychology Department for 12 of those years. The Alabama Board of Examiners in Psychology, #657, licenses her as a Licensed Psychologist. Dr. Matthews belongs to the following professional organizations: Alabama Psychological Association, American Psychological Association, Association of Social and Behavioral Scientist, and the North Alabama Association of Licensed Psychologist.
Dr. Calvin O. Matthews is a native of Decatur, Alabama. He graduated from Alabama A & M University with a Bachelor degree in General Science and a Masters in Counseling. He earned his Doctoral degree in College Counseling with a minor in Psychology from Michigan State University. He is currently the coordinator for the Department of Psychology and Counseling at Alabama A & M University. Dr. Matthews counsels, teaches and supervises Counseling and Psychology graduate students during their practicum and internship. The Board of Examiners in Counseling of the State of Alabama, #1467, licenses him as a Licensed Professional Counselor. Dr. Matthews is a member of the following professional organizations: Alabama Counseling Association, American Counseling Association, and National Educational Association.
Drs. Calvin and Belvia Matthews married in 1970 and are parents of three adult children. They enjoy traveling (Canada, Bahamas, Bermuda, Africa, England, and the U.S.), playing tennis, and various family activities.

Andrea J. Viegas, Ph.D. is a Neuropsychologist Psychologist at Psychological & Counseling Associates. She received her doctoral degree in Clinical Neuropsychology from Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1992. She completed a one-year pre-doctoral clinical internship at Clark Institute of Psychiatry in Toronto, Canada. In addition, Dr. Viegas, completed a two-year post-doctoral clinical and research fellowship at the Behavioral Neurobiology with rotations in Addictions Recovery Unit, Epilepsy Center, and Liver Transplantation, University of Alabama, Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Viegas is licensed in the State of Alabama and is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Alabama Psychological Association. Dr. Viegas' clinical interests are in neuropsychological assessment and psychotherapy with adults.
Lawrence R. Maier, Ph.D. is a Clinical Psychologist at Psychological & Counseling Associates. He received his doctoral degree from Washington State University in 1963. Dr. Maier completed a one-year clinical internship at the Langley Porter Neuropsychiatric Institute in San Francisco, California. Dr. Maier has diplomat status and is boarded by the following entities: American College of Forensic Examiners, International College of Prescribing Psychologist, and the American Board of Psychological Specialties. Dr. Maier is a retired member of the United States Army Reserve (1997). He is also the past Director and Chief Clinical Psychologist at the Community Mental Health Center, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. Dr. Maier’s clinical interest is in individual assessment and psychotherapy; forensic evaluations, mood disorders and family systems. His professional affiliations include: American Psychological Association, Council for the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, American Psychology-Law Society (Division 41 of APA), Prescribing Psychologists’ Register, Inc., American College of Forensic Examiners, and American Board of Psychological Specialties.
