Texas

Economic policy

Texas state government has historically been pro business: regulation is less restrictive than in many states, and there is no corporate income tax. The state government actively encourages outside capital investment in Texas industries, and the state's industrial productivity has produced a generally high return on investment.

Texas Economic (TXED) (formerly the Texas Industrial Commission) helps businesses locate or expand their operations in the state. Its stated mission in 2003 was to market the Texas and assist communities to maximize their economic development opportunities. The main division within TXED are Business Development, Tourism, Economic Research, and Financial Incentives. A private organization, the Texas Industrial Development Council, in Bryan, also assists new and developing industries.
