Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain - Big Bear Lake, California - Year Round Bobsled Ride and Recreation Area

Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain is located at Wildrose Lane in Big Bear Lane, California and is approximately a two hour drive from Palm Springs International Airport. The Alpine Slide is open seven days a week from 10am during the summer and winter seasons with closing times varying. During spring the slide is open Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm, while in fall it operates from 10am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The Alpine Slide is purported to be Southern California's only authentic bobsled experience and is open during summer, fall, winter and spring. Visitors are taken to the top on a chairlift where they get spectacular views of Big Bear Lake and surrounding mountains. From the top of the slide they ride down the quarter of a mile cement track on sleds, and can control their speed with a touch of the brake on the control handle.

When the snow arrives in October, visitors can enjoy the Alpine Slide still further with the Magic Carpet lift covered in Plexiglas taking riders to the top. The slide is famous for its "Snake'' patterned track that takes sliders through a series of high-banked turns. Children between the ages of two and six can ride with a paying adult over the age of 18 free of charge.

Visitors do not need to bring their own equipment to Alpine Slide as inner tubing is provided for snowtubing. It is recommended that people coming here in the winter wrap up warm with layers of clothing, which can easily be removed if it gets too hot. Riders should bring sunscreen, lip balm and skin moisturizer, as the sun reflects off the snow even on cloudy days.

The water slide opens from Memorial Day and takes riders down two twisting flumes filled with cool water. The slides turn and bank all the way down to a three and half foot deep pool at the bottom. Fortunately the water at the bottom is heated, and when visitors are finished they can relax on the poolside redwood deck.

There is plenty more to keep the children occupied in the recreation area including go-karting, which operates throughout the year. Here kids can ride in single and double-seater karts including 5.5 horsepower Honda motors with various safety features like professional safety restraints. Families can also have a round of miniature golf on the 18-hole course, which features breaking greens, water hazards and attractive landscaping.

There are many places to find accommodation within just a couple of kilometers of the Alpine Slide including Pine Knot Guest House, Marina Resort and Robinhood Resort. There are several eateries nearby too such as Village Pizza in Village Drive as well as North Pole Fudge Company in Pine Knot Avenue. While in the area visitors may also like to take the Big Bear Queen Lake Tours or perhaps visit Big Bear Discovery Center at North Shore Drive on Highway 38.
