Ananse Village

Ananse Village is on North Highway One near Fort Bragg, California. This village is a place to find African art. Much of the art is created by local artists of African descent. The community helps to support those who move to the United States, as well as those who have been born here that are of African descent. Paajoe and Rebecca own Ananse Village as a local art gallery for craftspeople. They started the idea after they traveled to Ghana in 2000.

They found a number of individuals with great talents in Ghana for art. Not only that but the need to help out these families is high, since many in Ghana do not have a great deal of money. The store not only supports a local community in California, but also back in Africa. These families who contribute to the US store now have money to support their families in medical and other needs. The owners of the store offer fair wages for the products being produced and displayed in their store. They also offer cooperative workspaces for the local artists to help protect the workers for human rights. The costs of materials are also lowered for many of the artists who have work on display.
