Boyden Cavern

Open from late April until mid-November, the Boyden Cavern is a place to explore and walk through a real cavern. It is located in Kings Canyon which is part of the Giant Sequoia National Monument. This is considered one of the most visually appealing places on earth. It is usually less crowded than areas like the Grand Canyon or Yosemite, giving it a peaceful, less touristy feeling. Many visitors love this and journey to the canyon and cavern on the regular basis. The Cavern is located beneath Kings Gate. Inside visitors will find speleothems, which are rare formations. The walking tour lasts 45-minutes and is enjoyed by kids and adults of all ages. There is a steep walk at the very beginning of the tour, but the travel levels out after the initial descent. The temperature is constantly 55 degrees and the path is lighted and equipped with a handrail. Tours usually leave about once per hour. Inside the cavern, visitors are treated to the Upside Down City, The Pancake Room, the Bat Grotto, The Drapery Room, and a formation known as Mother Nature's Wedding Cake. To reach the cavern, guests must travel through Sequoia National Park which charges an admission fee of $20, in addition to the admission fee to the museum.
