California Department of Parks and Recreation

Responsible for more than 210 parks and open space in the Sacramento area is the City of Sacramento Department of Parks and Recreation. The park maintenance department handles cleanup, facility maintenance, broken sprinklers and fixing park lighting. They are also responsible for applying herbicides to park curbs, fences, and tree wells. The Department practices safe application and nothing is applied to children's play areas. In addition to the park structures, the Department is responsible for handling neighborhood and community areas, sports fields, swimming pools, public restrooms, community centers, public gardens, and bike paths. The pedestrian walking areas by the Crocker Art Museum, K Street Mall, and City Hall are also managed by the Department. Park permits are issued by the Department for those who want to hold private gatherings of 200 or less people. Other permits include permission to use athletic fields, indoor facilities, swimming pools, and neighborhood block parties. A recreation guide is available as a guide to area park's through the Department of Parks and Recreation. In addition to maintenance and recreation, the park works to maintain safety and sustainability of the park system. The mission of the Park Safety Services and Park Ranger Operations programs is " to provide park guests and park neighbors with a safe and trouble-free environment through Service, Safety and Preservation".
