Doe Flat Trail

Located within Six Rivers National Forest, the Doe Flat Trail covers 1.5 miles through the Siskiyou Wilderness. It is rated as a moderate hike, with a 300-foot rise in elevation topping out at 4,500 feet. Access is on foot or horseback only; motorized or mechanical equipment, including chainsaws and bicycles, is not allowed. Pets on a leash, however, are welcome.

The trailhead can be found at a campsite that has tables, fire rings and a restroom. The trail begins with a descent down an old road. About 0.6 miles in, it reaches a recently constructed segment that rises to junctions with Buck Lake Trail and the Devil's Punchbowl Trail. This route is considered to be the easiest way to Wilderness Falls.

Doe Flat Trail takes hikers through stands of conifers that are home to a wide variety of birds, including raptors, osprey, hawks, quail, owls, falcons, and even the occasional Bald Eagle. Mammals in the area range from deer to black bears, mountain lions, bobcats, wolverines, and foxes. Some say that Bigfoot might be hiding in the untrammeled regions nearby.

Doe Flat Trail can be reached from the 16N02 entrance to Six Rivers National Forest, from Highway 199 and Little Jones Creek Road. Note that the trailhead access is limited by gate closures during the wet season, from mid-October through mid-June.
