Goleta County Beach

Goleta County Beach is in Goleta, California to the east of the University of California (Santa Barbara Campus). The beach is managed by County of Santa Barbara and Goleta Beach County Park. It is a man made beach with sand that was spread over the coastal area in 1945. The beach is now a place for birds like the snowy plover. The snowy plover is an endangered species, so for bird watchers this is an amazing site. In some years the beach can be closed down to help re- nourish the land for the birds and other habitats.

In this area is Goleta Slough, a tidal estuary, along with Goleta Valley and various ecological important areas. The park is day use only near Goleta County Beach. Visitors can arrive at 8am to stay until sunset. There are 27 picnic tables, four horseshoe areas, and three restrooms. Visitors can also enjoy the volleyball court. The park is 29 acres with beach. There is a restaurant in the park called Beachside or one can enjoy a picnic. About 1.5 million visitors a year enter the park to enjoy the various habitats, as well as Goleta County Beach.
