Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden

The Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Gardens is a well-known destination for garden enthusiasts. It is the only frost-free garden in the continental United States. There is ample rain in the area, which means trees keep their leaves all year round, including during the dry season of December through May. There are a number of flora and fauna, many of which are threatened or endangered. The garden is known for its biodiversity and its learning programs. The forested area is home to two of the remaining fresh water ponds in the Florida Keys. It is also a stop on the migration path of a number of neo-tropical birds, many on their way to or from South America. Many of the rare species of birds live in the garden, as well. The garden is also home to a variety of butterflies, in addition to the flowers and birds. Volunteer greeters welcome visitors to the garden at the education center. Visitors enjoy a film and look over the photo collection at the center. Tours of the garden are self-guided and include the one acre butterfly habitat with more than 23 species. The center features refreshments and restrooms, so guests can relax and enjoy their visit to the garden. The garden is also a popular destination for weddings and special events.
