Northstar Stables

An outdoor adventure resort that opens for horseback riding during summer months, Northstar Stables features horseback riding with excellent scenery and plenty of exciting trails. The resort is located a few miles north of Kings Beach (on the north end of Lake Tahoe).

Visitors can book a one-, two-, or three-hour ride through gentle hills and thick pine forests that offer views of the High Sierras peaks. Each trail ride is led by an experienced guide that caters the horseback riding to each group. Northstar Stables specializes in beginners and family groups and has gentle horses. Riders must be at least 10 years of age to ride on one of the horses. Visitors can also choose a 15 to 20 minute pony ride for younger riders.

Northstar Stables stays open during summer months through mid-October. Hours of operation generally run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance.

Northstar Stables is located about 40 minutes by car southwest of Reno, NV and 15 miles north of Lake Tahoe. Visitors can enjoy other nearby tourist attractions: Donner Memorial State Park, Emigrant Trail Museum, Donner Lake, and historic downtown Truckee.
