Orfila Vineyards & Winery

Orfila Vineyards & Winery is a relative newcomer to the California wine industry, having corked its first bottles in 1994. But that has not stopped this 70-acre boutique winery from setting the pace for San Diego area viticulture. Orfila's Rhone-style wines and rich Merlots have already amassed 1,300 medals in national and international competitions.

Orfila wines can be sampled in the winery's Tasting Room six tastings for just $10. Bottles and cases are sold here, as well as through select wine merchants and restaurants. The estate's wines may also be purchased through membership in the Orfila Wine Lovers (OWL) Club, and the wines are part of any wedding or private event held on the premises.

One very special occasion at Orfila Vineyards & Winery is the annual Grape Stomp in August. Between 4pm and 8pm, there are tractor rides, live music, and the opportunity to hop in a vat of grapes barefoot and "let out a little wine." A wine tasting reception with hors d'oeuvres is followed by dinner, all priced at $80 per person. OWL Club members receive a 20% discount.

Orfila Vineyards & Winery is located at 13455 San Pasqual Road, Escondido, California 92025. The Tasting Room and Gift Shoppe are open every day except major holidays from 10am to 6pm. Free tours of the property, including the vineyard, winemaking rooms, and cellars, are offered at 2pm and last about 25 minutes. Reservations are not required.
