San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden

San Luis Obispo Botanical Gardens offer a display of plant life known mostly to the Mediterranean climate. They offer visitors to San Luis Obispo, California a place to become educated about conservation, ongoing research, and to have fun with recreational activities. There are several programs for conservation, research, and education to help bring about appreciation and understanding regarding nature and human interaction with it.

In 1989 the first plantings for the garden were put into the ground. By 1991, the company was incorporated as the grassroots group- Friends of SLO Botanical Garden. El Chorro Regional Park was chosen for the gardens due to its proximity to Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo. The site was zoned for public space, thus a 40 year agreement lease was signed for 150 acres to plant the garden.

Some species found at the garden include Dietes iridoides, Lyonothamnus floribundus, and Teucrium chamaedrys. These species are native to the Med, and most specifically coastal communities like northern Africa. The garden offers paved and dirt pathways for visitors to travel through in order to see all of the different species. There are markers up to tell you about the flowers.
