Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area

Manmade Silverwood Lake contains the waters held back by 249-foot Cedar Springs Dam. At an elevation of 3,350 feet, this is the highest reservoir included as part of California's State Water Project. The surrounding state recreation area includes trails for hiking, beaches for water sports, and designated areas for boating and water-skiing.

The local marina has a launching ramp, equipment rentals, and a general store. Boaters should take note that all watercraft, including row boats, kayaks, canoes, sailboards, inflatables, and float tubes, must undergo a mandatory inspection, which has been instated to prevent the spread of Quagga and Zebra Mussels.

Many waterfowl are attracted to Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area, including Canadian geese. Raptors, songbirds, and an occasional bald eagle may be seen here, too. Those who enjoy fishing will find the lake stocked with trout, large mouth bass, striped bass, crappie, carp, catfish, and bluegill. A fishing license is required, and limits on catch apply to all but carp and bluegill.

A portion of the Pacific Crest Trail passes through Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area. It is located via Highway 138, eleven miles east of Interstate 15. Free Wi-Fi service is available within a 150-foot range of the Kiosk at the Park's entrance. Operating hours are from 8am to 5pm until April 2011, and thereafter from 6am to 9pm until September.
