St. Thomas Church

A parish of the Episcopal Diocese of New York, St. Thomas Church is located just half of a block east of the Museum of Modern Art. The church displays scenic architecture and has a rich heritage in the choral tradition.

St. Thomas Church was established in 1823 by three members of the local parish who wanted a building wherein to worship that was closer to them, which was at the northern edge of the then "settled" area of Manhattan. The current building is actually the fourth building to house the congregation and was completed in 1913.

Visitors can tour the church on Sundays after the 11:00 a.m. service. Visitors are encouraged to bring binoculars to view the detail in the stained glass windows. In addition, the church has available pamphlets that contain information about the architecture of the building.

St. Thomas Church is just 15 to 20 minutes west of LaGuardia International Airport. The church is within walking distance of the Empire State Building, New York Skyride, and Grand Central Station. Other nearby tourist sites include MoMA, Carnegie Hall, Ground Zero, Rockefeller Plaza, Central Park, Times Square, the Theater District, Whitney Museum of American Art, Central Park Zoo, and Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis and St. Patrick's Cathedral, to name a few.
