The Georgian Hotel - Santa Monica, California - Historic, Cliffside Art Deco Hotel

Positioned high upon a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, The Georgian Hotel has been serving guests since 1933. It recently underwent a $2 million restoration, which has returned the property to its original Art Deco grandeur. This is where such Hollywood celebrities as Clark Gable, Carol Lombard and Fatty Arbuckle came to get away from it all, and where such infamous mobsters as Bugsy Siegel and Al Capone once held their West Coast business meetings.

With 28 lavish suites and 56 guest rooms, The Georgian Hotel specializes in personalized service and fine accommodations. Every room has its own ocean view. The standard rooms range from 226 to 279 square feet of interior floor space and feature a queen bed, a king bed, or two queen beds. The Signature Suites cover 548 square feet and come with a king bed in the bedroom, separated by French doors from the living room, where a queen-sized sofa bed is located. Rollaway beds can be installed for an extra charge. Pets are permitted.

All units are provided with LCD flat-screen televisions with cable, Nintendo games and Pay-Per-View Movies. Also standard are direct-dial two-line phones with voice mail, clock radios with MP3 capability, complimentary wireless Internet access, an in-room safe, a coffee and tea maker, and a mini-bar. Other amenities include goose-down feather comforters, bathrobes and exclusive personal care products, a hair dryer, an iron, and an ironing board.

For those requiring meeting space, The Georgian Hotel offers a variety of options, ranging from the 216-square-foot Pacific Board Room, which seats up to eight persons, to the Speakeasy Room, which can handle receptions, dinners, parties, baby showers, luncheons and conferences of up to 90 people in its 1140 square feet. Two other function rooms available are the 330-square-foot Santa Monica Room and the 546-square-foot Georgian Room, both located on the mezzanine level, for groups of 12 to 40.

Breakfast and lunch are served al fresco in the Veranda Restaurant of The Georgian Hotel, where the outdoor porch overlooks the Pacific. The restaurant's signature dish is its French Toast Souffly. The menu features omelets, traditional American breakfasts, and fruit plates from 6:30am to 10:30am and coastal California cuisine from 11:30am to 2:30pm daily. Specialties include the Kobe Beef Burger with Sweet Potato Fries and a Brie & Mango Quesadilla.

Each evening, the hotel's lobby and the Veranda Restaurant convert into a lounge, offering guests wines, beers, cocktails and soft drinks. Lounge hours are from 3:30pm to 10pm weekdays and until 11pm on weekends. Guests will want to be sure to order the hotel's signature Art Deco martini, the Georgini.

Located at 1415 Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, California 90401, The Georgian Hotel is just a two-minute walk from the Third Street Promenade and five minutes from Santa Monica Pier. Parking rates are $21 plus tax overnight, including with in and out privileges, or $9 plus tax for day use only. The property is managed by Broughton Hospitality Group and a member of the Historic Hotels of America.
