Titus Canyon

Titus Canyon can be reached by Death Valley Junction through Death Valley National Park, California. Titus Canyon can be driven through along a dirt road. Along the way visitors can see colorful rocks, rugged mountains, petroglyphs, ghost towns, wildlife, and rare plants. Towards the end of the canyon is a narrow area that is almost too small for vehicles. It can make for an exciting grand finale. The canyon does become a one way drive past the Rhyolite Ghost Town, but it is also one of the most popular roads, meaning visitors are often not alone on their travels.

A two wheel vehicle with high clearance is recommended, though one should have four wheel drive if weather conditions are not dry. The west section with a two lane road is okay for standard vehicles, but once the valley narrows the high clearance is required. The entire trek through Titus Canyon is 27 miles, with an average drive time of 2 to 3 hours. The canyon walls rise around visitors at more than 200 feet, with little sun hitting the canyon floor. Titus Canyon also has one hiking area that allows Titus Canyon's remote areas to be accessed.
