Tuolumne Meadows


Located in Yosemite National Park lies Tuolumne meadows, which is surrounded by several rock domes in the eastern portion of Yosemite Park. Tuolumne meadows is known for its expansive views of Cathedral Range, Lembert Dome, and Mount Dana. Camping is available at Tuolumne Meadows campground but reservations are recommended as it is a popular location for campers. The area near the Tuolumne River is known for great hiking and rock climbing. The climbs around Tuolumne Meadows tend to be more gradual than ones in Yosemite Valley and are more popular with less experienced climbers.

There are a total of 11 major dome formations and a number of minor ones surrounding the meadows. The climbs tend to be short to medium length. The major domes include Stately Pleasure Dome, Polly Dome, Daff Dome, Pothole Dome, Lembert Dome, Fairview Dome, Mariolumne Dome, Medlicott Dome, Pywiack Dome, and Tenaya Dome.

There are areas in Tuolumne Meadows that also have permanent snow fall because of the high elevation. The approximate elevation is 8600 feet above sea level. Several trail heads great for long pack backing trips begin in Tuolumne Meadows. Each dome includes several different climbing routes to be enjoyed by climbers.
