Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Case's Thought For The Day: Something Mae Once Said

Posted 02-23-2023 at 09:24 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I think it's time I give you my Thought For The Day, and this borrows a line from the late actress Mae West, but then, we've all faced this at some point.

It goes like this: "I generally avoid temptation unless I can't resist it."

Posted 02-17-2023 at 07:25 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This did not have to be an agonizing wait.

And never mind that the town in which I live tends to have questionable mail service. Ol' Case waited what seemed like an eternity..............for his..........

......W-2 form.

Originally, it was supposed to arrive in January. For some reason, it didn't. I wasn't about to ask the postmaster any questions, but in all my years on God's Earth, I have never had an issue with my W-2 form not...

Stormy Or Not? Patterns Tend To Play With Our Emotions

Posted 02-15-2023 at 08:10 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The National Weather Service was thinking something was going to happen in my area tonight. Because of this, they put a watch box on top of my county and a few others in Texas until 10 pm tonight.

Well, an hour before this severe thunderstorm watch is to expire, showers remain confined to an area east of Wichita Falls, but nothing happening anywhere close to Dallas as yet. A new forecast was issued, but still keeping these thunderstorms in it, but now, they're supposed...

Our Music World Remembers Bacharach: A Different Kind Of Composer

Posted 02-13-2023 at 06:10 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

There were songwriters, and then, there was Burt Bacharach. Back in the 1950s, he didn't want to just write songs the way everybody else did. In an era where there were so many pioneers in different relationships of life, Bacharach proved that he was also one himself.

The quest for differentness in music took a few years. By 1960, he was settling in nicely after much of what he composed in the '50s was just null. Wasn't very Bacharach-esque. By that, I mean...
