Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

There's The Texas Dairy Queen --- And Then There's Everyone Else's

If you've ever stopped in at a Dairy Queen in the state of Texas..........and then stopped in at a Dairy Queen in Oklahoma, then you should notice that there's a big difference in menu choices. For a specific reason, it comes down to franchising.

Back in 1947, the folks in Illinois who actually founded the entire franchise had allowed Rolly Klose of Austin to franchise his soon-to-be chain in the Capital City. And Klose wanted a local flavor to his DQ, which would...

New Texas Tech Football Facilities Are Coming Around

This following post was taken from a follow-up on our Lubbock forums, but it bears mentioning. And, of course, any pictures are too good to pass up.

Lots of recent goings-on at Jones A T & T Stadium in good ol' Lubbock in these last few months. The renovations are going along nicely. Our friend shoe01 has made a very thorough and convincing presentation if I do say so, myself.

Where Are They Now? Cousin Brucie Still Does Local Radio

Posted 07-26-2023 at 07:12 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

He may be gone from SiriusXM, but radio will never leave Bruce Morrow. You see, Cousin Brucie doesn't believe in retirement. He's 87, but let's face it, the man is still in denial.

Two years ago, the Cuz would just land at the place where he made it big on the airwaves, and that's New York City's WABC-AM (770). It was there back in the 1960s where he made a name for himself, having become the first American disk jockey to interview The Beatles when...

Sometimes, Summer Goes A Bit Too Quickly

Posted 07-22-2023 at 11:17 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Every winter, I always utter the phrase, "Bring back the springtime." Why not? I don't have much patience during cold-weather months, and I'm not really the greatest fan of long-sleeved shirts.

Well, if it's late-July, then it's a different story, but I don't mind uttering the same line again, "Bring back the springtime." Early sunrises are about to go away for another year, and after the first part of August, the colors change in the...

Case's Thought For The Day: Maybe It IS Man's Best Friend

Posted 07-21-2023 at 06:12 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Well, readers, I guess it's time for our Thought For The Day right here. Get a bite out of this if you can. This may be because your pet might possess something you don't have. Or, perhaps, it could be that that furry creature in your midst may make more sense than you do, given the right set of circumstances.

"The average dog is a nicer person than the average person."
