Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Might Be Some New Construction On A Third New Water Tower In Lubbock

Posted 09-24-2023 at 09:02 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This was something I noticed on Google Street View that looked intriguing. Although you can see activity from on top, you won't have any of the latest frames from street level reflecting it.

A few moons ago, we talked on Case's Column about the city of Lubbock replacing their old water-pumping equipment with fresh new towers. Their plan was to build five in the next five to seven years. Previously, two had already been built, one on 50th Street and another on Milwaukee...

We've Got Another Hump Day Upon Us

Wednesdays are special. It's the middle of the week. We're right between the weekends, and sometimes, we all need to just take pause.

After all, you've got Monday behind you. For some people, it's a pain in the backside, but for me, Mondays are a day off from work. It's not quite Friday, but you have something to look forward to, if for no other reason than to pop a top on your favorite beverage in celebration, and at your favorite dive. Right now,...

It's A New Baking Pan / How Not To Make Frozen Omelettes In The Microwave

Posted 09-16-2023 at 07:43 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Thought I'd give you two stories in one post. Just like a double-dip ice cream cone, if you will.

In my kitchen, there was this baking pan with a plastic round top. There were cracks forming in that same round top. Some parts of it were snapping apart, and some of that was falling into a potato dish I made for a church group a few months back. Embarrassing. So, instead of using the round top (as it was about to be retired by its user), I reached...

Statement Game: Texas Longhorns Beat The Alabama Crimson Tide

Posted 09-09-2023 at 10:08 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This was one of those "You never know..." games. The Texas Longhorns football team was due to do something big, and what better way to pull off such a feat than in a game against a future Southeastern Conference opponent?

Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was the scene of the crime --- er, game! Certainly nothing wrong with an upset like this, but Alabama's Crimson Tide fell to the Texas Longhorns in today's (at this writing) matchup by a final of 34-24. ...

The Heat Is On? It Might As Well Be If Your A/C Is Not Right

The Case abode is getting too hot now. Never mind that I'm still the swingingest, most good-looking bachelor on City-Data , but this isn't the kind of hot I'm referring to.

I'm talking about my air-conditioning system, which, until yesterday, had provided cool air. Now, for some reason, the temperature inside my apartment has been consistently above 80 degrees. Fortunately, I've got a maintenance guy up here to untangle this hot mess. He just told...
