Fair enough argument, the idea of this list is to give more of a broad perspective as it can be hard to find particular homicide counts for every single city continuously. With the way the Gun Violence Archive works it includes all gun violence homicides and automatically sources some from nearby suburbs in some instances (examples: Atlanta, St Louis, Pittsburgh).
