All our men are snoozin'

Posted 04-20-2012 at 07:59 PM by LookinForMayberry

DH and Bigun are snoozing comfortably after a hard day working. Bigun was finally able to drag me out of the house after a three day health imposed hiatus. (I don't just have allergies, I'm special, I have asthmatic reactions to allergies -- something new to adjust to in my advanced years.)

DH is just taking a turn for the better with his cold, but I am still letting him sleep. He looks tons better than he did this morning.

Flat tire

Posted 04-19-2012 at 03:44 PM by LookinForMayberry

Just returned from the doctor, DH and I were talking about how what was once (when we were younger) a simple thing can devolve into a big thing, now.

Metaphorically, it's like getting a flat tire. When you are young, you jump out with the jack, raise the car to lift the axle, unscrew the lug nuts, etc... reverse the process with the new tire on, and you are back on the road.

"It's an employer's market," she says...

Posted 04-18-2012 at 11:00 AM by LookinForMayberry

"but it will correct, and the jobs' requirements will become more normal again." She looks out upon our faces as we look back at her. Did we blink?

Did the others feel how oppressive that silence was -- pressing us to our seats?

Unable to bear it a second longer I raised my hand and nearly pleaded: "But I don't have that long. I'm nearly 56. By the time the market corrects I won't be able to get back to work..."

My words failed as...

Working My Plan

Posted 04-16-2012 at 11:34 AM by LookinForMayberry

Maybe it's just me, but having a plan to follow helps me feel that I have some control over my destiny and feel better about myself. (Not that I do not believe that God can override my petty plans, but that's God's prerogative.)

So, yesterday I created my activity plan for re-employment, my diet and exercise, and my preparations for increased job skills -- along with the usual house/yard work. This morning, by 7:30 I was "on it."

Now, it's mid-morning and...

Remembering How to Succeed

Posted 04-15-2012 at 07:26 AM by LookinForMayberry

I've been obsessed with finding another job, and it has not been good. I forgot a very important key to my former successes: "Plan the work, and work the plan." It's worked for me in every scenario, personal, educational and occupational -- just figure out what to do, put it in a logical sequence, and get to it.

And when the day's tasks are done, FORGET ABOUT the PLAN! (That's the part I've forgotten.)

So, I'm creating a plan for this coming week, by day,...
