I realized years ago that if I was going to be happy in my life, I had to be happy with finding joy in the cracks of time between my obligations and commitments. I liken my life to that little tug that pulls in between great ocean-going vessels, winnowing her way to find the best position to snuggle in and take hold of life's leverage point. I may have to tow that monster that yokes me, but for brief moments I can rest, relax, and take joy in knowing that this small space of time is mine. ...

Another Loss Thing

Posted 02-20-2013 at 07:03 AM by LookinForMayberry

My favorite poem is Elizabeth Bishop's "One Art" because from the first time I read it, it has provided me the comfort of knowing that I can survive my losses, because she could survive hers.

"The art of losing isn't hard to master," she begins, "so many things seem filled with the intent
to be lost that their loss is no disaster,

Lose something every day."

Posted 02-04-2013 at 08:00 AM by LookinForMayberry

Life is better with a job to do. I was getting SO DARNED weary of applying for jobs, interviews with people I couldn't understand, the sneering communications for the unemployment office. Really, do they think I would prefer to put up with their questionnaires rather than do productive work?

Thank God for Robert Half's Management Resource Group, and a very enterprising young woman there that came across my file and made a call a couple of months ago. I had not worked through...

Posted 01-12-2013 at 08:49 AM by LookinForMayberry

New beginnings are historically an optimistic time for me when I let my mind create this warm, fuzzy picture of how this time is going to be great. Somehow, all those I encounter -- me, for starters, will awake to their life's blessings and will be so enthused about sharing them that overnight the world will finally learn how to sing in perfect harmony.

And then, reality sets in....

So far, as of today, January 12th, I am still headed for the fall. I am...

This is Christmas

Posted 12-25-2012 at 09:05 AM by LookinForMayberry

DH woke me when he got up, and I called him back to wish him a snuggly Merry Christmas. I am a lucky woman to have such a wonderful man in my life who works so hard to make such a good life for us.

Snuggling with him is more gift than I will ever need.

It is a Merry Christmas.

I opened the set of interchangeable German circular knitting needles I bought for myself a couple of weeks ago, with his permission, that has been waiting on the table where...
