I posted SK and me to my profile pic today, because as much as I love my wonder dog, Bigun, I still weep for my loss of SK. He was my buddy in every regard.

Weary Beyond Imagination

Posted 08-30-2012 at 02:01 PM by LookinForMayberry

Yesterday the hired laborer DH had arranged to come and help me in the yard did not show, so I was out there breaking up soil to remove weeds and grass roots for three hours. I was so tired I felt like crawling up the stairs. Since the guy was supposed to arrive at nine, Bigun did not get his walk, so you can imagine HIS energy level. Oh boy.

I think I came close to running out of hot water (from our 50 gallon tank) in an effort to ease my stiff, sore muscles and joints. Had I...

Never a Boring Moment!

Posted 08-27-2012 at 05:45 PM by LookinForMayberry

Posted 08-24-2012 at 08:26 AM by LookinForMayberry

When we bought this house over thirteen years ago the front and back yards were dried out, weed-laden lawns on hardpan with virtually no topsoil. It's nearly a quarter-acre, and as I wandered about looking at it it just seemed to challenge me to do something with it. I went to my desk, facing out into the back yard, and drew out a plan.

Now, we have no grass. We created berms to plant trees, shrubs, and perennials in various locations around the yards separated by sand-filled walkways....

The Long Trek Home

Posted 08-21-2012 at 08:06 AM by LookinForMayberry

Yesterday morning was overcast and cooler than the previous week (of 90s and 80s), so I decided to walk some paperwork down the hill to Edward Jones, rather than drive. Big Finn Hill is roughly 500' where our home is located, and their office is at sea level. Taking the "scenic" route through the neighborhoods (instead of Juanita Drive's direct route) is just short of three miles. Bigun needed his walk, so he joined me.

Walking down has its steep places, where I wouldn't...
