Agriculture – Florida leads the southeast in farm income.

Florida produces about 75% of the U.S. oranges and accounts for about 40% of the world's orange juce supply.

Florida ranks low in terms of the tax burden placed on residents. Based on income, property and other state and local tax collections, the Tax Foundation research organization ranks Florida among the lowest tax states (Florida ranks #45 among the 50 states in 2004; only five states have a lower tax burden).

Reportedly, Florida is the only state, which has two rivers with the same name. One is in the north central region of Florida, while the other is located in central Florida. Both are named Withlacoochee River.

Most of the parts of Florida experience a humid or a tropical climate. On a hot day in June 1931, a temperature of 109 degrees Fahrenheit was recorded, making it the highest temperature ever recorded in Florida. -2 degrees Fahrenheit is the lowest temperature recorded in Florida.

There is a place called Boca Ciega, which literally means, ‘blind mouth’. Another place is named Boca Raton, which translates to ‘mouth of a rat’. Loxahatchee is a community inhabiting the Palm Beach County in Florida. Interestingly, the word, ‘Loxahatchee’ means ‘a river of turtles’.

It is about 833 miles by car from Pensacola to Key West. That's about the same driving distance as from Springfield, Illinois to Pensacola.

The name Punta Gorda, which means, "fat point" when translated from Spanish. The moniker was given to the city because a broad part of the land in Punta Gorda juts into Charlotte Harbor. The harbor itself is somewhat unique, as it is the point where the Peace River meets the ocean.

Orlando attracts more visitors than any other amusement park destination in the United States.

Florida is not the southernmost state in the United States. Hawaii is farther south.

Saint Augustine is the oldest European settlement in North America.

New England Congregationalists who sought to bring their style of liberal arts education to the state founded Rollins College, the oldest college in Florida, in Winter Park in 1885.

    Hi Southern FL Girl:
    We are in need of some advice. Our family is relocating from Winter Springs, FL to Broward Co. for work in Miami Lakes.
    The real estate market is doing well but buying right away seems too impulsive.
    A safe area with excellent middle schools is our priority. we have considered Weston, Parkland, and Pembroke Pines based on advice and school ratings.
    What can you tell us about quality of life, schools, and affordability and comparable cities to ones I've listed?
