why are prices so extreme even for recession

Posted 06-02-2010 at 05:47 PM by mask of thought

does any one feel that prices today are so high they promote stealing. i have noticed that even marshals have gotten very tight on counting items you take into the changing rooms. its really annoying when the employees of a store follow you around it ridiculous how high prices are like how the hell is some cloths so expensive when theres hardly any cloth on it.! ok recession i get it but it looks like it takes alot less to make these items then what stores are selling them for

    Because people pay the price...

If they can price them, and people buy them, then they will continue. You can boycott the store if you'd like.

The real dirt here is what you referred to, the cost to actually produce the items. I have a friend who was a purchasing agent for the Federated Department Stores and had to travel to Asian countries to purhase goods, and she said people would be shocked at what a company pays for clothing.

The clothes are made in sweat shop conditions by people whom are paid almost nothing... as compared to our standards, but to them it is acceptable, more often than not, no choice because they are illiterate, or unemployable otherwise.

For example, take something relatively cheap... what you pay $25.00 for, cost the store only $2-3.00 to buy! Even if you add on import fees, transportation, etc., their cost still does not exceed $5.00. If you ever wonder how some stores stay in business even though they don't appear to be busy, or sell much, that is why. Lots of profit in the big chains.
