Free Things to Do in Charleston, SC

Posted 03-28-2019 at 12:02 PM by SCDweller

Beach, Shaggin on the Pier, Fresh Shrimp & Grits, Sweet Tea! Summertime is FUN in Charleston & Summerville. If you have just moved or purchased a home for sale in Summerville, here is a list of free or inexpensive things to do in Charleston & Summerville.

The Beach

Location: Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, Sullivans Island, Kiawah are all wonderful for the family. You’ll find me with my family at the Isle of Palms!
Dates: All Summer

Riverdogs baseball game
If you are looking for some great fireworks and a fun time for the family, you should check out a baseball game! The Friday night games always show off a great deal of fireworks!

Location: 360 Fishburne St.Charleston, SC 29403
Tickets: 843-577-3647 General Admission is $5 (3 & under are free) Visit their website.

Waterparks

There are three waterparks in the Charleston area, Whirlin Waters, Splash Zone, and Splash Island that are wonderful. Visit Charleston County Park & Recreation for prices and learn more. Tuesdays are two for one!

Waterfront Park
Located Downtown, this is a big favorite with children and adults a like. You will always find children playing in it during the summer days. Admission is free and fun!

Ravenel Bridge
This is another free thing to do. Granted, don’t do it in the sweltering heat, but once it cools a bit, it is a fun adventure for older kids and the view at the top is amazing! Bike it or walk it and have fun.

Firemans Museum
Located in in North Charleston, this museum is very fun for kids with lots of old Fire Trucks and equipment – Adults are $6, children under 13 are FREE!! Click Here to visit their website.

Ft. Moultire
Fort Moultrie is a free fort (donations accepted), unlike Fort Sumter (or rather the boat ride out there) and very fun. My kids loved how cool (temperature wise) it was in the stone halls and if you like to joke around and sing together, the acoustics are amazing. Have fun and spend a morning enjoying South Carolina’s history.

Folly Beach Moonlight Mixer-Shaggin on the Pier
Location: Folly Beach Edwin S. Taylor Fishing Pier, During the Summer Months

Time: 7-11pm (All Mixers are on Friday night, rain date the following Saturday)
Tickets: (843) 795-4386 ($10-advance, $8-advance purchase for Charleston residents, $10 at gate if any tickets are available.

This is one of event that ranks as an all time favorite for my daughters. Dance the night away under the stars and with the ocean sounds! Very fun night. Food and Beverages are sold at the location.
