Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Another Free Whataburger And The Chicago Deal

Posted 06-24-2019 at 07:28 PM by case44

By now, many of you Texans such as myself found out --- to our disappointment --- that a longtime family business such as Whataburger was sold to a group out of Chicago. And I don't mean Chicago, Texas.

The one in Illinois. The one where there are mobsters. And corruption. And crime. Face it, sports fans, Al Capone and Harmon Dobson (Whataburger's founder) couldn't have less in common. The trouble is, right now, Harmon has got to be rolling over in his grave. It's drawn the ire of Houston Texans star J J Watt, along with some other fellow Lone Star mates. Already, a movement is in place to buy back the Texas chain (which already has some locations in other states) from the Chicago guys.

In the meanwhile, Ol' Case had a validation for a free Whataburger, and, so, your writer took advantage this evening. When paying for it, out came another receipt. It was a long receipt, and that meant one thing. You see, every fifth customer at Whataburger gets one of those receipts for a survey to be taken to receive a free Whataburger within a 30-day period. And your favorite blogger got that receipt tonight. It was my third one in the past two weeks! With one more still to be used, I think what I'll do is, upon completion of this latest survey for validation, I will give a co-worker an opportunity for a free Whataburger. Generous, huh??

Let's all keep our fingers crossed that these Chicagoans don't ruin a good product.
