ON: Family Euro-Trip with Toddler (Itinerary help)
Quote:
Hi,
I am planning a Europe trip for 12 Days for the end of June 2020 this year with my wife, parents and mother in law. Below is the itinerary that we have worked out:
Day 0 - Land in Paris
(Snip ****ing insanity.)
Day 12 - AM Flight Back Home
How does this itinerary look? We tried to limit the cities since we will be traveling with our kids who will be 10 and 2.5 years old at the time of the trip. I only wanted to do 2 cities however my mother's dream is to go to Venice so we cut down the days in paris/rome so we could squeeze that in.
We also chose to take flights between the cities to save time and not have to worry about the toddler being uneasy on the overnight train from Paris -> Venice.
Thoughts?

God (this) thread made me crack up. So sorry, I have little "helpful" to add, I must admit. Remainder is sincere, but must be considered tongue-in-cheek:
Friend of mine is from Oz. He now has six kids: two with the Ex, two with his new wife, two organically w/said new wife. By a long shot, his greatest regret is EVER travelling with any of the brats to Oz. He's done that once or twice. Those flights are very difficult and long, obviously, even from West Coast. Keeping some kid busy for a twelve hour flight (in that case), or what, seven hours from Newark to de Gaulle in OP's case?
Solution? OP just drive off morning of the trip. Drive opposite direction, straight to Florida. Setup camp in Key West or Key Marathon for about a week. Throw cell phone out the window somewhere around Norfolk.
Okay, say that doesn't happen. Next best bet, also from my buddy, clear as a bell: "Hire an au pair!"
...it's her problem if insisting on dragging kids across two countries known for being both expensive and not exactly accomodating to Americans to say the least. Trying to deal with that, and "a toddler" which will take enormous amounts of time and aggravation, plus in-laws who will insist on causing their own problems, believe it. Money well spent.
I'd remove any boat anchors possible if OP insists on a trip like that. Like I said, I'd pay extra to load all that on the nearest jumbo jet and AWAY from me for ten days. That in itself would be the best-possible vacation.
Best of luck.
