ON: Prepping, RE: "Is it Katy bar the door time?

CORONAVIRUS

A deadly new virus from China, which causes respiratory illness and pneumonia, is spreading around the world. CDC calls it COVID-19. I live in Kirkland, WA, about two miles due south of the outbreak's original United States epicenter, with multiple cases and the first substantial deaths. Through today, King County has 56 deaths attributed to the virus (source: Dept of Health).

(Caveat: one man, one IT worker, one opinion: I have no extra info over and above, one commentary only.)

The pantry is fully stocked, the powder is high and dry.

The reaction to the pandemic looks like it may be just as destructive as getting the flu itself. In my life I have never seen entire states shut down. I do not agree with that. Sounds like government over-reach to me. I am so glad I live in a good state for firearms, God bless Missouri.

So in my humble opinion, yes it is KATY BAR THE DOOR TIME. Release the hounds, shoot all trespassers, all hands on deck. We will be in a better place come fall time, until then keep your head down and your eyes open. This is real folks, very real.

I am ready.
Alright then. Will remark on this as a philosophical blog post, as I don't throw in with most preppers and as long as they don't advocate blowing people away, I may have some relevant comments to the subject.

I live two miles from the original epicenter, or at least with highest death toll: Kirkland WA. The convalesce home. Wow, all that was big news four short weeks ago. Seems an eternity. Yet they just shut us down, shelter in place, just this week. 20%, by poll (if a FB poll means anything), are in a deep state of fear. The rest of us are calm enough, and carrying on. I like hearing from ranchers and independent types in the country, Wyoming and MT and CO.

Kirkland is suburbia, million dollar homes are the median and the truly wealthy have the lake properties starting at three million. Up around the hospital is the former "affordable" part of town, that they're gentrifying. That being the now infamous Evergreen hospital, where I'd go in an emergency. They're worried, and over-worked now. Two weeks from now, may be worse. I'll keep well clear of that deathhouse, thanks.

We're shelter in place. And...? Amazon took my order, I had McDonald's drive through for breakfast. Mostly we are shut down a few weeks. I do suspect the tide may turn, we'll need the government to come up with statements, and a plan, else people will simply blow off the quarantine and the reaper will ride, for good or ill. This is a high tech epicenter, billions in commerce is stymied and that just can't continue.

I'm no believer in "the Government," that's just stupid. A lot of my White-Guilt peers have too much of that going on. Dumbasses. I'm White, professional, 50s, multiple Master's degrees, live in suburbia because there is enormous money to be made here, and will another ten years unless killed by the virus or will of God, I suppose. There is little shortage of anything, I'm not going out to stores this week (probably) unless it's a 5am Safeway run. Good time to shop, btw, and I don't mean for dumb stuff: just staples to keep the ball rolling in comfort and style. My home and habits are clean.

Point? I personally don't think we're approaching any sort of "gun up, nut up" situation. I'm well armed. I've trained well with fellow from professionals from (big software) who look like me, soft-looking nerds who have trained with Operators and various SWAT how to survive disaster. Not a boast, just a statement that we're not nuts, sames as most on this thread, nor are we over-reactors. Some have families, we live in style, and oh btw know how to handle small arms and small unit tactics too. It ain't gonna come to that, not this month anyway. I doubt any month during this particular national emergency, personally.

...But y'all could be right. So the smart ones here do "light weight prep" with a month or two of supplies, and we watch, observe, go out carefully, then retreat to our dens.

Interesting times, as they say.
