Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

How Can AAA Not Add Service When It Counts?

Posted 10-04-2020 at 08:50 PM by case44

I live in a metropolitan area of seven million people, and AAA (Triple-A) has to try to fulfill its duty to provide fast service if anyone has a problem. This writer had his car's battery go dead in the visitor parking lot of his apartment complex after stopping briefly to check his mail.

So, what do I do? Call AAA. Usually, their service is pretty fast, but it's Sunday night and very few people tend to work on that night and we're still trying to get over COVID.....

Well, you know the drill by now. I made the call to AAA, and all they had tonight was an independent contractor. One. Nobody from AAA had their own people out helping others. I get one independent contractor. One person for seven million people. You'd think that they could have about four people on a Sunday night because somebody out there will be stranded or needing a tire changed or new battery or something. Ol' Case just needed a jump for now before heading to Firestone in the morning to get a new battery.

How long did your writer wait for that attendant?? Two hours. I kept bugging the dispatcher for the independent contractor's status. What did I get? A whole bunch of excuses. The fact that the driver may have helped someone in a neighboring city is fine, but it's how long he took that was the concern. The dispatcher kept saying he was in heavy traffic trying to get through Dallas. This writer looked on Google on his Smartphone and there was no traffic of any kind. Sounds like a dirty politician to me.

So, after calling AAA at another number to talk to another rep, she'd gotten in touch with the towing service, and within a few minutes, the tow truck with the lifesaver finally arrived. This after making repeated calls for two hours! At least, now, my limp battery is working again. Tomorrow, I'll head for Firestone and get a new battery. With me heading for vacation next week, I'm glad it happened tonight instead of seven days from now. But one person to service seven million people?

Hey, such is life.
