Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Bitter Dodger Fan Still Can't Put The Past Behind Him

Some folks out in baseballland just can't let go. During a break at work, I stumbled across one of the Los Angeles Dodgers' social media sites. I have to tell you, there's some big bitterness in them parts.

People in Cali are still mad at the Houston Astros for the scandal which put a cloud over their 2017 World Championship. The opponent was, of course, the Dodgers. Folks, that episode was four years ago. Were it not for loudmouth former Astro Mike Fiers, who snitched and let the proverbial cat out of the bag, we probably wouldn't hear so much crying, at least, not to the extent that Dodger fans have. The aforementioned media site is called Dodger Way, and the writer of that piece was a fellow named Adam Weinrib. Basically, what that article was was nothing more than another rant about how he thinks his team should have been handed the championship. Even after the punishment and the evidence in physical form, we still don't know if said evidence was actually used during the World Series. No matter, though, as Games 6 and 7 were in Los Angeles, and the Astros convincingly prevailed in the latter game.

So Weinrib just cries and cries. Poor baby. Hey, Adam, your team still lost. You guys gave it a go, and it was a very thrilling Game 5, but at the end of the Series, your team still lost. And the Astros still won. Period. Done. End of story. Even though Dodger fans are vowing to get back at the Astros, they will fail. I mean, good grief, L.A. won last year's Fall Classic. What's to complain about now?? Adam Weinrib's latest gripe is about how the Astros will have the Dodgers coming to Houston just in time for Minute Maid Park to open up once again to a full capacity. Great for baseball, and great for all fans involved. But, as Weinrib writes, it's bad for the Dodgers because they're going to get booed lustily in a full house on the road while his poorly-run state can't open up Dodger Stadium more than fifty percent. Too bad, so sad. And the Astros don't go to Dodger Stadium for their road series until August. Hey, Dodger fans, do us all a favor: Shut up and get over it. It's 2021, and you've got the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres to beat in your division. Focus on that. Poor Adam Weinrib. Just venting his pitiful frustrations because his widdle team wost in '17. Poor, poor baby....

As a certain former president, which we'll call Dubya, once said, "I think we all agree.........the past is over."

And as for my beloved Astros, guess what? We're still winning. No need for center field cameras or trash cans behind the dugout. The Astros are better than that, and they've plentily proven that.

Here's the unfortunate chickenscratch from Weinrib's poison-filled typewriter:

Sheesh! Get a life, Whinerib! Your team won last year's World Series, so don't you feel at least a little vindication?? Perhaps you should be concerned about a situation on your own team which bears more mentioning, and it might, anyway, later this year.

MLB is investigating Trevor Bauer and some baseballs which he allegedly doctored in a game earlier this season. Dodger fans, if you think you're so bitter now, then just wait until Bauer gets in deep doo-doo.

At least, in Oakland, they're acknowledging just how good the Astros still are, and how we Texans deserve to be in first place. Just good, sound, fundamental baseball.

I'm not crazy, however, about the same Oakland Athletics team's pathetic attempt at hiding Mike Fiers from the Astros. Sooner or later, he'll have to pitch against them, so they conveniently are hiding him away to prevent any "potential problem".

    He's not a cardboard cutout; he's a man.

Sooner or later, I think you'll see more and more things and players surfacing. One-upping and cheating (as it were) have been commonplace for years. It's not an Astros thing or a Red Sox thing; it's an MLB thing.
